Michigan Prevention Association Annual Awards
Criteria for Individual, Organization, and Legislator of the Year Prevention Awards
Please submMPA established its annual Prevention Awards to recognize excellence, innovation and persistence in promoting prevention services and environments across fields and disciplines in Michigan. These awards are given annually to individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the field of prevention in Michigan.
The selection committee will consider both professional and personal qualities in giving the Preventionist of the Year Award. Professional qualities include leadership activities and accomplishments, promotion of and commitment to prevention, length of service, and the extent, span and quality of the individual’s impact. Personal qualities include integrity, commitment to service, respect for colleagues, and willingness to share knowledge with others.
The Prevention Organization of the Year will be selected based on exceptional impact on prevention policies and services, innovative approaches to prevention activities, involvement in community and state-wide change and/or development of activities targeted at underserved populations.
A Legislator of the Year Award is also given, when appropriate, to a member of the Michigan Legislature who has made outstanding contributions on issues of importance to the prevention community.
Members from the MPA Executive Board and other representatives of the general membership will comprise the Awards Committee. That Committee will review nominees submitted by MPA members and present candidates to the Executive Board of MPA for final selection. All of the awards are presented at the December Burning Issues Conference.
